We know fruits and vegetables are good for
us. Our mothers and grandmothers told us. Now we know
they’re good carbs, too.
In a recent survey, only 12 percent of
Americans actually eat the recommended amount of fruits and
vegetables, and 40 percent of respondents recognized the
“five a day” rule. A promising note is four times more
American’s recognize the five or more daily servings of
fruits and vegetables goal today than in 1991.
So how do we get more? Try eating fruits or
veggies in-between meals. The survey found that 71 percent
of respondents would be most likely to eat more fruits and
vegetables as snacks. So stock up on the fresh, frozen, or
canned produce and take them with you to enjoy on your
morning or afternoon break.
Or give the gift of good health and offer
fruit and veggie arrangements to your family and friends and
make the holidays a 5-a-day season. (Tufts University Health
Letter, Nov. 2004)
